TAM Museum is partnering with the Kupferstichkabinett of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin to expand the reach of their exhibitions.
"Bosphorus Beats – Views of Istanbul from 1500 to 1800" brings together drawings, prints, and books depicting Istanbul and "the Turks," featuring works by Pollaiuolo, Dürer, Coecke van Aelst, Rembrandt, Liotard, and Chodowiecki. These works trace how Europe perceived the Ottoman Empire across centuries — sometimes with curiosity and admiration, sometimes through prejudice and propaganda.

TAM Museum Co-Director Dr. Gülşah Stapel had the honor of delivering the greeting address at the opening night on February 12, 2026.

Workshops and Creative Writing
In "Beat the Name – Renaming Artworks", participants question the titles of selected works and propose new names through playful, multilingual dialogue.
The workshop "I See Something You Don't See! – Creative Writing", developed with author Dilek Güngör, invites participants to reflect on the artworks — and on their own experiences with prejudice and identity.
TAM Forum — Guided Tour and Library Visit
Through our monthly TAM FORUM, we hosted a guided tour in February with exhibition curator Dr. Mailena Mallach and had an in-depth discussion of Antione Ignace Melling's prints.
Participants also had the opportunity to view other works by Melling from the Kunstbibliothek’s collection that are not on display in the exhibition.

Das TAM Museum kooperiert mit dem Kupferstichkabinett der Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin, um die Reichweite ihrer Ausstellungen zu erweitern. "Bosporus Beats – Blicke auf Istanbul von 1500 bis 1800“ vereint Zeichnungen, Druckgrafiken und Bücher, die Istanbul und „die Türken“ darstellen, darunter Werke von Pollaiuolo, Dürer, Coecke van Aelst, Rembrandt, Liotard und Chodowiecki. Die Arbeiten zeichnen nach, wie Europa das Osmanische Reich über Jahrhunderte hinweg wahrgenommen hat – teils mit Neugier und Bewunderung, teils geprägt von Vorurteilen und propagandistischen Bildern.
TAM-Co-Direktorin Dr. Gülşah Stapel hatte die Ehre, am 12. Februar 2026 das Grußwort zur Ausstellungseröffnung zu halten.
Von der Ausstellung ausgehend, haben wir ein Programm entwickelt, das historische Perspektiven mit gegenwärtigen Fragen zu Identität, bildlicher Repräsentation und Erinnerungskultur verbindet.
Workshops und Kreatives Schreiben
Im Workshop „Beat the Name – Kunstwerke neu benennen“ hinterfragen die Teilnehmenden die Titel ausgewählter Werke und entwickeln in einem spielerischen, mehrsprachigen Dialog neue Benennungen.
Der gemeinsam mit der Autorin Dilek Güngör entwickelte Workshop „Ich sehe was, was Du nicht siehst! – Kreatives Schreiben“ lädt dazu ein, über die Kunstwerke – und über eigene Erfahrungen mit Vorurteilen und Identität – zu reflektieren.
TAM Forum — Führung und Eintauchen in die Kunstbibliothek
Im Rahmen unseres monatlichen TAM FORUMS veranstalteten wir im Februar eine Führung mit der Kuratorin der Ausstellung, Dr. Mailena Mallach, und setzten uns inbesondere mit den Druckgrafiken von Antione Ignace Melling auseinander. Dabei durften die Teilnehmenden auch andere Werke Mellings aus dem Bestand der Kunstbibliothek in Augenschein nehmen, die nicht in der Ausstellung zu sehen sind.
